Tan on a train, rice fields and mountains outside the window

Where

Tainan, Taiwan, in my third year as a PhD researcher at National Cheng Kung University.

Working on

Digital servitization: how firms move from selling products to selling services built on digital tools, and whether it really makes them more competitive.

Most days go into data: building DEA models that measure how efficiently firms turn resources into performance, reading, and writing papers. Alongside my own work I help mentor graduate students and coordinate lab projects.

Recently

Our lab visited Zalo at VNG headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City to interview the team behind the app. Fieldwork like this is where industry and academia actually meet.

Running

Evening runs around Tainan, usually around 10 km, often under the moon. Here is why.

Learning

Chinese, one conversation at a time.

Photographing

Temple festivals, night streets and everyday life in Taiwan, plus whatever I find on trips back to Vietnam and to Japan. New work goes up in Photos and on Instagram.

Writing

Poems and late-night thoughts in Vietnamese as Phong is writing. A selection is in Poetry and Thoughts.
